That. Much. Sugar?
Updated: Oct 26, 2022
And the average kid (and often adult) is smothering ketchup all over his food!
As most of you are aware, Americans consume too much sugar in their diets, some getting more than 22 tablespoons of sugar a day! Excessive sugar intake, with its drug like qualities, can lead to a number of health issues including obesity, heart disease, and tooth decay.
Did you know that many commonly consumed foods are unknowingly the biggest contributors of sugar in your diet?
The more processed foods have become, the more ways sugar has been sneaked in. The sweeter and better it tastes, the more you buy. (Good for food manufacturers, bad for us!)
Here's just a short list of where sugar is hiding:
Fat-free and low-fat food items (especially baked goods, such as crackers, cookies, cakes, pies, ice cream and sorbets)
Gluten free products
Marinades and barbecue sauces (often in the form of corn syrup)
Tomato sauce and ketchup (same)
Flavored oatmeal and cold breakfast cereal
Protein and snack bars
Coffee, fruit juices and smoothies
Baby formula! (corn syrup again...)
