FLAVORED. BALSAMIC. VINEGARS.

Updated: Oct 12, 2021

You many be shocked to learn that I don't use any oil on my salads, and that I don't miss it at all!

I keep my meals mostly whole food plant based and as low on the caloric density scale as possible. My yummy, delicious salads help stay full and satisfied.

Instead of using oil, I aim to meet my fat requirements from healthy fats in their whole forms. (Ie. avocados vs avocado oil, whole, raw nuts and seeds like walnuts, flax and chia etc) (More about this in another post, IYH.)

So, how do I dress up my salads without oil???

I replace the oils that I used to add in my salads (at 4000 calories a pound!) with flavored balsamic vinegars and spices. Look at the variety I found at the local kosher stores (See photo below). I'm sure there are more, but these are my favorites.

In addition to the vinegar, I also add different spices such as garlic powder, a little pepper, some basil and mustard, and/or some of Mrs Dash’s salt free varieties. Fresh squeezed lemon juice is also a great option.

For me, this is an easy way to cut calories while still making my food exciting and delicious. Try dressing up your next salad with one of these vinegars and let me know what you think.
